Seawall Stabilization by Polyurethane Injection

Not every failing seawall needs to come out of the ground. When the wall itself is structurally sound but soil is escaping through cracks, joints, and voids, injection restoration can stabilize the entire system without excavation, and without weeks of heavy equipment on the property.

The challenge

The symptoms were the classic ones: soil settling behind the cap and voids opening beneath the lawn, evidence that material was washing out through the wall with every tide cycle. The owners wanted the problem stopped without tearing out an otherwise serviceable wall, and without disturbing the finished landscape above it.

Our solution

This is a non-intrusive application. Using portable equipment, polyurethane resin was injected through pipes directly into the voids and loose, sandy soil behind the wall. The resin seals cracking, voids, and defects while mixing with the surrounding soil, curing into a solid, impermeable mass stronger than crystalline bedrock.

The resins we use are certified to NSF 61-5, approved as safe for contact with drinking water, so the method is environmentally safe on any waterway. Paired with proper drainage, the treatment greatly extends the life of the existing seawall at a fraction of the cost and disruption of replacement.
